Let Your Light Shine Day 16
This is a psalm that I sing frequently at church as part of the “Liturgy of the Word” section of Mass. It acknowledges that God’s spirit is the life of the world. Jesus said in the Gospel of John (6:63) “It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” Life comes through the breath or the spoken word of God, and gives life and energy to everything on the planet.
Everyone who is alive has this life energy. Psalm 8:6 says, “You [God] have made him [humans] a little less than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor.” The bible aligns us with heavenly beings, angels, which shows how powerful our spiritual nature really is. When the physical world is in chaos, it is important for us to remember that we are connected to the heavenly realm of God through the spirit that he gave us.
Our thoughts can help us connect with God, or can move us away from Him, into the fear of the physical world around us. Dr. Wayne Dyer wrote in his book, The Power of Intention (pp 75-76),
“Every thought you have has an energy that will either strengthen or weaken you….What you may fail to see inside (yourself) is a result of how you choose to process everything and everyone in your world. You project onto the world what you see inside, and you fail to project into the world what you fail to see inside...It is only discord acting within your own feelings that will ever deprive you of every good thing that life holds for you!”
The bible holds hundreds of promises of blessings stated from writers across thousands of years. The overarching message of the bible is that “God is love” and “God loves us”. Those promises of God’s blessings are the thoughts that we need to ingrain into our minds and hearts so that they strengthen us.
This psalm is a prayer, or a call to God, asking him to renew everything in our world. If we listen to the news report, and are full of fear as a result, we can say this prayer, “Lord send out your spirit, and renew the face of the earth.” God’s spirit can breathe life into any situation and make it new and beautiful. Let this be the thought we hold onto, so that we can have the energy to call all of the good things of life into our world.
“Holy Spirit, thank you for the power that your life-giving energy has in me. Thank you that when I call on the name of the Lord, you will come and renew everything that is happening in my own world. Lord fill me with your spirit, and renew my mind and body. Enable me to receive all of the blessings you have promised for my life. Amen.”
